「海外大学字幕プロジェクト」は、日本語や日本文化を学ぶ海外の大学生らが、業界の第一線で活躍するプロの映像翻訳者から指導を受けながら、日本の短編映画に英語字幕を付け、世界に向けて発信していきます。
世界各地の大学生の指導にあたるのは、20年間に4000人以上のプロ映像翻訳者を育成してきた日本翻訳アカデミーの映像翻訳ディレクターです。 講義にはビデオ会議システムを導入。東京にいる講師と現地の教室をつなぎ、ディスカッション形式で翻訳作業を進めていき、各大学オリジナルの英語字幕を完成させていきます。その作品のPRなども学生自身で行い、最終的に、上映会で上映します。
“クールジャパン”には欠かせない大きな要素、「映像作品」。字幕翻訳には作品の内容に加えその背景にある社会や文化を調べる作業が必須です。参加する学生たちは一本の短編映画と対峙することでより深く日本を知り、その魅力や課題を世界に発信する担い手として、確実に成長を遂げるでしょう。同時に、彼らが翻訳・発信を手がけた字幕つき作品は国境や文化の壁を越えて世界中の視聴者に制作者の想いを届けるはずです。
本ページでは、翻訳作業を通じて日本を学び、世界に発信する学生たちの姿を追います。
The Global Universities Subtitling Project provides an opportunity for students of Japanese and Japanese culture to receive professional visual media subtitling training and the chance to create subtitles for a Japanese short film bound for a global audience.
Students from participating universities worldwide receive instruction from the Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy directors, who have taught more than 4,000 students over 20 years. Lessons will be conducted via a stable WEBEX connection (an online video meeting system). This system will connect the directors in Tokyo with the students abroad and they will work on subtitling in discussion style classes. Once each university finishes their English subtitling, students will also be responsible for the PR leading up to the final screening.
The use of video is an essential element for the effective delivery of Cool Japan contents. Visual media subtitling does not simply demand translation of the spoken dialogue but also research into the background and society that shape the film’s story. Participating students will be given the chance to delve deeper into the culture of Japan as they compete their subtitling work and through this research, find hidden mysteries and magic that can be expressed through the subtitles to a global audience.
This website will follow the students’ progress as they take on the challenge of subtitling short film.

あらすじ 中川悠二、22歳、ニート。祖母と愛犬との静かな暮らし。月に一度襲われる原因不明の腹痛。将来への漠とした不安。それでも日は暮れて夜が明ける。結果を追い求めず目的を手放したときに気づく。世界はこんなにも豊かなのだと。 Spending his days in a lull, unemployed 22-year-old Yuji was troubled by a mysterious stomach ache once every month and a bleak outlook of the future. When he meets a stranger while out walking his beloved pet dog, he realizes that by freeing himself from the constraints of productivity, the world is actually a beautiful and wonderous place.
学校紹介 1817年創立。文学、生物工学、医学と多様な11学部が設置されており、およそ4万1000人の学生が学んでいる。日本語専攻コースの学生たちは現代語や古語を徹底的に習得するほか、日本史、日本文学、日本文化研究といった領域で学びを進める。 Established in 1817. Consists of 11 various faculties including Arts and Philosophy, Bioscience Engineering, and Medicine and Health Science. There are 41,000 students. Students majoring in Japanese study both modern and ancient language. Their studies also focuses on Japanese history, Japanese literature, and Japanese culture studies.

High school student Kaho couldn't bear wearing skirts anymore. With that frustration growing inside, Kaho meets and falls for an odd girl while spending the summer at the family vacation home. Meanwhile, Kaho's mother falls mentally ill due to her husband’s unfaithfulness. By rebelling against the unfairness and norms of the world, this family works to overcome their adversaries.

上智大学で日本語（大学院修士課程）を学びながら、1年間JVTAのスタッフとして勤務し、現職。日露学生インターンが作る「J-Anime Meeting in Russia 2020」の中心メンバーとして運営から字幕翻訳まで手がけ、イベントを成功に導いた。
After completing a Master's Degree in Japanese studies at Sophia University while interning at JVTA, Aleksandra now works full time handling multiple projects. One of her biggest achievements at the company so far has been acting as a board member for the J-Anime Meeting in Russia 2020, a festival centered around Russian and Japanese students producing subtitles for Japanese content together.

ポーランド出身。ヤギェウォ大学言語学部日本学修士。同大学大学院在学中にインターン生としてJVTAの翻訳受発注部門MTCに勤務。現在は映像制作を手がけるほか、映像翻訳者としての経験を生かし大学などで英語字幕の指導も行う。
Born in Poland. Has a Master's Degree from Jagiellonian University in Japanese Studies (Faculty of Linguistics). While attending graduate school, he worked as an intern at JVTA's Media Translation Center. Currently, in addition to working on video production, he also teaches subtitle translation, making use of his previous experience as a visualmedia translator.
